Case Study
Custom Learning Management System
Life Ed Queensland needed a custom online Hub to build, maintain and deliver a library of courses and resources to a network of schools and educators.
The client
Since 1987, Life Ed Qld has been an important part of growing up for more than 1.5 million Queensland children – empowering them with knowledge and skills for a healthy, safe life.
They deliver programs directly to classroom as well as provide courses, activities and lesson plans to teachers.
“After just 3 months of going live, our Life Ed Queensland Hub activity has more than doubled!"
The problem
After using an off-the-shelf platform to create and maintain their courses, lessons, activities and resources, it became obvious that the nuances of their requirements needed a custom solution.
Their existing solution required too may work arounds as well as compromises for what became an expensive annual subscription.
Feedback from schools was that teachers found it difficult to register and navigate the old site to find resources for their classrooms so they would give up and leave the site.
Their reporting on activity within the platform also need to be reworked to save days of manual data entry each quarter.
- Overpriced subscription
- Too many work-arounds
- Simple reporting
The solution
A web app that can build courses, lessons and activities, and deliver those resources to a network of Queensland educators.
Custom built LMS
The Life Ed Queensland Learning hub is a purpose built LMS, built from the ground up. Its functionality is dedicated to facilitating the delivery of educational courses and resources.
Our process stared with a scoping phase, where we uncovered the vision and key functionality.
We designed the user interface/experience, making it both clean and uncluttered, but also personable and friendly, like the LEQ brand.
This then came to life through a clickable prototype that allowed us to rapidly test and change the user experience before starting development.
Our inhouse developers then proceeded to build in all features for each user type, including the LEQ staff creating the courses and the teachers accessing them.
The admin area was built to support integration of learning materials, including downloadable worksheets, video lessons, html formatted programs and activity pages on screen to share on smartboards in the classroom.
We worked with the client on fine tuning the functionality and usability until it was a solid foundation that they can use for years to come.
